On 12 September, ENVI voted on the adoption of two motions for a resolution on the amendment of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 changing residue levels for cyproconazole, spirodiclofen, benomyl, carbendazim and thiophanate‐methyl in or on certain products.
The Commission was mandated to set out maximum residue levels for specific pesticides. Several MEPs have objected to the draft Commission Regulations under Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 concerning the adjustment of these maximum residue levels. The objections raise concerns that the proposed regulations do not ensure a high level of consumer protection and promote a double standard by allowing imports of products treated with these substances, putting EU farmers at a competitive disadvantage and potentially compromising consumer health in the EU.
