On 27 January 2025, ENVI will hold a public hearing on the state of water in Europe and potential solutions in the framework of a European Water Resilience Strategy and an EU Blue Deal.
On 15 October 2024, the European Environment Agency published the report "Europe's state of water 2024: the need for improved water resilience" that outlines overarching challenges facing future European water management. In parallel, the European Commission is developing a comprehensive Water Resilience Strategy to promote preservation, restoration, and innovation in water sector. In addition, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) presented its Call for an EU Blue Deal in October 2023, outlining recommendations for a sustainable water policy in Europe. The hearing will examine the state of water in Europe and its challenges as well as explore solutions benefiting from the expertise of various stakeholders involved on EU and national level, followed by a discussion with the Members on the next steps.
